The number of senior citizens is on the rise: In 2010, there were 40.3 million people aged 65 and above, comprising 13 percent of the overall population. (This total is 12 times the number it was in 1900, when this group constituted only 4.1 percent of the population.)
Eligibility for HELPS is determined by the following:
Your income is social security, pension, income from self retirement funds, disability benefits, veteran benefits and even take home wages of around $225 per week.
You owe debt you have difficulty paying now or will have in the future.
You don’t want to be harassed by collectors.
You don’t want to spend your limited retirement funds you control to pay old debts.
There are things that might disqualify you from HELPS and we will discuss those things over the phone. The vast majority of persons that meet the criteria above qualify for HELPS.
